1945 is the year when Hélène Lazareff founded ELLE magazine in Paris. This French journalist, who’d returned to Paris after several years in New York working for fashion magazines like Harper’s Bazaar, launched the first edition of ELLE with a subversive and elegantly simple vision: to “open women’s appetites.”

ELLE is now published around the world. With 42 editions in more than 60 countries, 5 continents and 23 million readers, ELLE is the world’s No. 1 fashion magazine.

ELLE’s first foreign edition was ELLE US, launched monthly in 1985 (in France, the magazine is published every week!) and it was an unqualified hit that forever changed the landscape of American fashion magazines.

ELLE was the first fashion magazine to display any sustained interest in popular culture and the connection where high fashion and the street meet. Fashion was to be integrated into a woman’s daily wardrobe according to her own tastes and comfort level. Out of that grew ELLE’s unique modern message: Fashion (that which is current) should always be subordinate to Style, the very personal message that a woman sends about herself. Style is about everything, from the way a woman lives, to where she travels, to her taste in music, art, food, cars, and technology

A woman’s silhouette is like a sentence in which every word expresses a message. In this sentence, jewelry pieces have great importance – depending on the mood and style, they can become the capital letter, the apostrophe, the coma, the verb, or the subject. The versatility of jewelry makes it the most powerful tool in the world of fashion accessories. Jewelry is the emotional and poetic vector for a woman to express herself and to reflect her style.

Time is the most important notion in life: from birth to death we are obsessed with conquering it. Time as “science” and technological performance is less relevant nowadays, and it doesn’t recognize the new relationship between women and their time management – time has become the ultimate luxury. ELLE, as the biggest fashion magazine in the world, knows women best. ELLE knows their needs and their desires. By appreciating, enjoying, being conscious of, and controlling their time, women are defining their own way of living. ELLE Time pieces are inspired by long-term fashion trends combined with the social, cultural, spiritual, architectural, and artistic movements of today.
